In “A/way Home”, we explore how overcoming challenges empowers individuals and promotes gender equality. Two characters display equal determination, balancing vulnerability and resistance against societal injustices. The performance challenges gender norms and hierarchical structures, emphasizing women’s capacity to provide emotional and physical support, while advocating for men to embrace sensitivity and vulnerability.
Beyond gender, the piece tackles broader social concerns like marginalization and economic inequality, encouraging viewers to reflect on wealth disparities and homelessness. It calls for a society that treats everyone with dignity, regardless of background, race, or class. Questioning superficial values, it highlights the emptiness they can bring, focusing instead on empathy and connection.
Inspired by diverse cultural settings and urban landscapes, “A/way Home” celebrates resilience and inner strength. Drawing from Lily and The Vagabond, it confronts harsh realities while fostering understanding and empathy. Our aim is to provoke thought, inspire, and cultivate an inclusive cultural environment where every individual is valued equally.
